Service Dog Definition

A service dog is a working dog individually trained to perform specific tasks directly related to a person's physical, sensory, psychiatric, or intellectual disability. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), these trained dogs can legally accompany their handlers into almost all public areas. Please note that we train service dogs, therapy dogs, and emotional support animals, however ESA‘s do not have public access rights. 

OUR CRITERIA FOR TRAINING A SERVICE DOG:

- Dog must present NO aggression or uncertainty with people, other dogs, or environment.

-Dog MUST have a background in obedience and must have taken our advanced obedience or meet the criteria  of a graduated dog.

- Service dogs through us must pass a CGC, CGCA & CGCU

Board & Train: $400 per week + $75 per individual tasks.

The dog provides Deep Pressure Therapy and grounding by applying gentle pressure to help the handler regulate.

The dog retrieves medication, phone, keys, and other essential items for the handler.

The dog performs an orbit to create space around the handler in crowded areas.

The dog disrupts panic attacks by alerting the handler through licking or pawing.

The dog leads the owner to an exit, chair, or other location to help them get out of crowds.

The dog interrupts repetitive behaviors when cued or observed.

The dog guides the owner to a specific person when needed.

• The dog lays "under" a chair, bench, or similar object and stays out of the way.

• The dog heels through a crowd while ignoring other people, food on the ground, other dogs, and environmental distractions. 

• The dog stays in a down and sit while distractions pass by, even away from the handler.

• The dog safely crosses the street with the handler not pulling them while maintaining a heel. 

• The dog goes up and down stairs without pulling the owner, or jumping in front of the owner. 

• The dog remains calm while a stranger pets it, even when the person is holding a bag, or another distraction such as an umbrella.
